The astrology of the past few days brought a nefarious plot to light, a plot against women. Pluto went retrograde on April 29. Then there was a solar eclipse Saturday May 1 during the New Moon in Taurus and finally the Jupiter/Pluto sextile perfected on Tuesday. Also Tuesday a draft was leaked that revealed that extremist elements with strong religious views in the American Supreme Court were working to overturn Roe vs Wade and remove abortion rights and protections for women in America. The religious right wing has been pushing for this for years in America and it is pushing for it here in Canada too. There are a large number of male and female MPs in the Conservative caucus in Parliament now who are opposed to abortion rights for women, including the interim leader.
I have supported women's rights and abortion rights for women since I was a young teen in the 1970's. The 1960's and 70's were a time when Western society freed itself from the yoke of institutionalized fundamentalist religious oppression, which opened the gateway for sexual liberation, abortion rights, alternate spiritual views, women moving into the workplace, gay and lesbian rights, gay marriage and more recently trans rights. It is appalling that in the 21st Century women once again must fight for agency over their bodies, but here we are. What should be sacred is a woman's right to choose, medieval interpretations of even older scripture written by humans hundreds of years ago in the Bible and the Quran. It has only been 270 years or so since these same religious zealots were burning people like me at the stake here in the western world and of course religious persecution against those who do not follow the dogma of the dominant religion of the land exists in many places in the world today.
The Patriarchy is a religious construct going right back to the Genesis and Garden of Eden myths, when the god plucked a rib from the man he had just made and created woman. For this to be a spiritual paradigm based in equality both man and woman would have been created from the source material. Immediately afterward woman is cast as a temptress and as weak in moral character by offering the man the forbidden apple. I have always preferred astrology to religion. Astrology is inclusive, astrology does not hate, astrology does not demean, and astrology does not take away fundamental human rights of the born and living. My body, my choice, should and must be the law of land. Sadly we must fight this fight once again.
